M&A Legal Assistant/EA
A large international law firm is seeking a Legal Assistant to support Corporate and M&A teams in its Chicago office. This role partners with attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff to deliver high-level service to internal and external clients.
Position Overview
The Legal Assistant coordinates and provides advanced legal and administrative support to multiple timekeepers (Partners, Counsel, Associates, and other legal professionals). This role manages workflow, balances team assignments, and ensures efficient execution of legal practice support functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate case workflow and manage day-to-day support for multiple attorneys
- Prioritize and delegate assignments across support teams to meet deadlines
- Provide document support for corporate transactions, including drafting, proofreading, and redlining
- Prepare closing binders, closing memoranda, and transaction documentation
- Maintain quality control and deadline tracking across assignments
- Manage client communications, databases, and correspondence
- Prepare reports, presentations, and Excel-based materials
- Coordinate meetings, calendars, and travel arrangements
- Process expense reports and assist with billing-related tasks
- Open new matters and support intake and records procedures
- Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., research, marketing, finance, records)
- Provide overflow and cross-team support as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or ABA-approved certificate preferred
- 5+ years of law firm experience supporting M&A or corporate transactions
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience working with complex, heavily formatted legal documents
- Familiarity xrczosw with legal research and document management tools (e.g., Relativity, LexisNexis) preferred
- Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality
