Position Overview
The Traveling Superintendent is responsible for overseeing field operations on large-scale data center and mission critical construction projects across the United States. This role serves as the on-site leader, managing subcontractors, schedules, safety, quality control, and project execution from groundbreaking through commissioning and turnover.
Projects may include hyperscale data centers, colocation facilities, mission critical campuses, advanced manufacturing facilities, and technology infrastructure projects, requiring strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage complex construction activities under aggressive schedules. The ideal candidate has experience leading large mission critical projects and is comfortable traveling extensively to support project needs.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all day-to-day field operations on mission critical and data center construction projects.
- Manage subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to maintain schedule, quality, and productivity goals.
- Develop and maintain short-term and long-range look-ahead schedules.
- Coordinate site logistics, material deliveries, manpower planning, and trade sequencing.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Lead daily subcontractor meetings, coordination meetings, and project progress reviews.
- Partner with Project Managers and project leadership to monitor budgets, schedules, and project milestones.
- Coordinate inspections, testing, commissioning activities, and turnover requirements.
- Oversee installation and coordination of critical power, electrical, mechanical, cooling, and life-safety systems.
- Identify and resolve constructability, coordination, and scheduling challenges.
- Monitor field productivity and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Manage punch list completion, startup activities, integrated systems testing, and project closeout.
- Ensure strict adherence to OSHA requirements and mission critical safety standards.
- Maintain daily reports, project logs, and field documentation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
- 8–15+ years of construction experience with at least 5 years serving as a Superintendent on large commercial, industrial, mission critical, or data center projects.
- Strong experience building data centers, mission critical facilities, advanced manufacturing facilities, semiconductor facilities, or other highly technical infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience managing projects valued at $50M+ with preference for projects exceeding $100M+.
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, switchgear, generators, UPS systems, HVAC infrastructure, chilled water systems, fire protection systems, and commissioning processes.
- Experience coordinating multiple trades and managing large field teams.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and commissioning documentation.
- Strong understanding of mission critical startup, testing, and turnover procedures.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage fast-paced projects with aggressive schedules and demanding clients.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the United States.
- Experience working on hyperscale data center projects.
- Experience managing phased turnover and commissioning activities.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office.
