The O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs (O’Neill) at Indiana University, Bloomington campus, invites applications for a full-time, renewable, non-tenure track academic year appointment as a Lecturer or Clinical faculty position to teach in its expanding Law and Public Policy program. The course assignments are flexible, with topics related to areas such as constitutional law, administrative law, legal history, and legislative processes. The school has a particular interest in candidates with a background in environmental law and/or dispute resolution.

Individuals appointed within Lecturer or Clinical faculty positions are expected to focus on teaching (including course development, revision, and delivery), as well as on teaching-related service such as student advising and curriculum development. Those appointed as Clinical faculty are also expected to actively engage in service to relevant academic and practitioner communities. Lecturers and Clinical faculty are eligible for promotions to higher ranks within lines (Lecturer to Senior Lecturer and Teaching Professor; Clinical Assistant Professor to Clinical Associate Professor and Clinical Full Professor).

The standard teaching assignment for Lecturer and Clinical faculty positions is six courses per year. Lecturers and Clinical faculty are not eligible for tenure but will be considered for promotion and/or long-term contracts no later than the sixth year of appointment. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The expected start date is August 1, 2026.

Basic Qualifications

Qualifications for this position are: 1) a J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school; 2) at least 10 years of professional experience in legal practice or a law-related field, such as policymaking; 3) teaching or extensive presentation experience; and 4) commitment to high quality teaching and student mentoring.

Additional Qualifications

Though not required, one or more of the following would be advantageous: significant professional experience in negotiation and/or conflict resolution; professional experience in environmental law and/or environmental policymaking; classroom teaching experience, particularly at the college level; and training or practice in other areas of O’Neill’s undergraduate curriculum such as labor and employment law, health law, administrative law, or ethics.
