Position Summary

A Ball Mill Operator is responsible for ensuring a mill produces a quality product as specified in the DP409001 “Production Sampling and Testing Guidelines”. The operator reports to the Production Supervisor. This is a night shift position 6:30 PM - 6:30 AM.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for maintaining compliance with the Huber Sustainability Management Standard requirements, within their sphere of influence. This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, waste water permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements.

Potentially Significant EH&S Impact(s): In charge of monitoring their equipment for visible emissions, shutting down equipment with visible emissions and reporting emissions to their area coordinator. Deal with petroleum spills properly.

1. The Ball Mill Operator operates three mill units (1, 7, 27, 28, 29, 36, 37, 38, 47), coating system, 7 classifiers, 12 load out systems, and a granulation system which provides feed for Ball Mill unites, as well as producing bulk granular products.
2. Inspects mill unit area for unsafe conditions daily.
3. Operates mills in a safe and efficient manner.
4. Performs preventative maintenance servicing of equipment as required. Ensures electrical equipment is locked out before repair work begins.
5. Produces and loads materials as established by the Plant Scheduler or Area Coordinator.
6. Obtains in-process, final product, or load out samples on pre-determined intervals DP409001 “Production Sampling and Testing Guidelines” or as specified on the LW403003 “Plant Order Instructions”.
7. Uses Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques as a guide in making process adjustments.
8. Inspects trucks and rail cars before loading.
9. Prepares required daily operation reports.
10. May direct one or more personnel in the packaging process. The operator may be required to perform packaging duties based upon location or under direction of the Area Coordinator.
11. Advises succeeding Ball Mill Operator(s), coordinator, and maintenance of operating problems and conditions.
12. Employees must learn and observe all applicable company policies and safe practices and perform all duties assigned by supervisor. This description covers the significant duties of the job but may not include occasional assignments which would be within the evaluation of this job.
13. Knowledgeable of the ISO quality system as required to assure compliance to the ISO 9001 quality standard.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Technical school a plus.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years industrial experience or technical school equivalent or a combination of education and experience.
• Willing and able to work and act safely (laboratory and plant practices).
• Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations that include the following: multiplication, addition, and percentages – all of which can be accomplished with the use of a calculator if needed.
• Must have good overall communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Must be able to read and comprehend company safety manual policies, operating procedures, MSDS, and various production schedules/reports.

Physical Requirements

• Works in control room and in mill unit building exposed to heat, cold, noise, vibrations, grease, oil, ground limestone and somewhat dirty conditions. Plant milling system equipment is located on multiple levels and requires climbing stairs or stationary ladders to monitor and/or adjust its operation.
• Must be able to lift and move 50 lbs occasionally, must be able to ascend and descend ladders, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and crawl. Must be able to work in a dusty environment where temperatures vary from extremely hot to cold, work in humidity and around various chemicals.

Any offered salary is determined based on relevant factors such as an applicant's skills, performance, job responsibilities, prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications and market considerations.

U.S. Market-Based Salary Range

[$27.55 - $30.30]

In addition to base compensation, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and profit-sharing payout.
