Job Description
The Service Technician will work closely with Service Advisors and fellow Technicians, and is expected to understand and carry out the high standards of Barker Motor Company. As a key member of the Service Department, they must be able to represent the dealership in a professional manner and contribute to a first-class customer experience.
They must embrace the mission and vision of Barker Motor Company and bring them to life through quality, efficient, and trustworthy vehicle repairs and maintenance. They are expected to pay close attention to detail while also understanding the larger goal of keeping customers safe, satisfied, and returning for future service.
The Service Technician will report to and work closely with the Service Manager, using their skills in the following areas:
Major Responsibilities and Activities:
- Diagnose and repair a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues on multiple makes and models.
- Perform scheduled maintenance services, including tune-ups, brake repairs, suspension work, and engine diagnostics.
- Conduct complex repairs such as transmission services, engine overhauls, and HVAC system diagnostics/replacement as needed.
- Perform multi-point inspections, accurately diagnose vehicle concerns, and communicate repair recommendations to the Service Advisor.
- Test drive vehicles to verify concerns and confirm quality of repairs.
- Use diagnostic tools, scan tools, and technical service information to efficiently troubleshoot and repair vehicles.
- Maintain high productivity and efficiency while ensuring quality workmanship.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Assist fellow technicians and support service department operations as needed.
- Adhere to safety protocols, manufacturer guidelines, and company procedures at all times.
- Perform other duties as needed or assigned by the Service Manager.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, kneel, bend, talk, hear, and use hands and arms to handle tools and automotive components. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds regularly. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work in a garage setting with exposure to vehicle noise, fumes, and other service-related conditions. Must have a valid drivers license and the ability to safely operate vehicles for customer test drives or inventory management.
