Virtual Special Education Teacher
As a Special Education Teacher at The Menta Education Group, you will have the freedom and ability to educate a small classroom of students in a self-contained setting. Our social-emotional learning environments offer engaged and inquiry-based academics combined with a P.B.I.S. structure.
REQUIRED: Illinois PEL with LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist I) i.e. Special Education Teacher Certification or the ability to obtain the Illinois PEL (Professional Educator's License) through out-of-state license reciprocity (e.g. WI to IL teacher license). Special Educators from other states must sit for an Illinois license exam.
2 Positions Available:- K-8 Personalized Curriculum
- 9-12 Personalized Curriculum
Staff Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday, following a 10 Month School Calendar

Responsibilities:
- Full-time position with 5 hours of virtual direct instruction per day plus flexible time dedicated to lesson planning, grading, and IEP work
- Provide a differentiated learning environment
- Work collaboratively with staff, including curriculum and clinical staff to yield positive results for the students
- Gain support on-campus from other teachers, administrators, curriculum staff, clinical staff, and various support staff that are Menta employees Have the freedom and ability to personalize learning
- Provide a social-emotional learning environment
- Have a classroom size of around 10 students with paraprofessional support in the classroom
Qualifications:
- REQUIRED: Illinois PEL with LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist I) i.e. Special Education Teacher Certification or the ability to obtain the Illinois PEL (Professional Educator's License) through out-of-state license reciprocity (e.g. WI to IL teacher license)
- Proficiency with video-conferencing platforms (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams).
- Must be flexible in the ability to teach multiple grade levels as student populations change
- Ability to work with youth with emotional/behavioral/cognitive, and academic difficulties
- The ability to create/design digital content in order to deliver engaging online lessons.
- Strong classroom-management techniques adapted for virtual settings.
- Skilled in differentiating instruction for diverse learners
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and build relationships across all levels and with diverse personalities
- Ability to teach students using Digital Curriculum & Assessment tools ( Such as interactive lessons, modifying materials for accommodations, and using online assessments for progress monitoring.
- Ability to troubleshoot technology issues: (such as basic computer troubleshooting, managing digital file storage (Google workspace), navigating browser extensions, and basic computer troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with assistive technology tools (text-to-speech, speech-to-text, screen readers, AAC apps, accessibility settings).
- Strong organizational skills, precise documentation with the ability to maintain accurate records in a virtual environment.
