Position: English Language Learner (ELL) Educator -
Part-Time
School Year: 2026-2027
Job Summary
The English Language Learner (ELL) educator is responsible for designing and delivering specialized instruction to
students acquiring English as a second language, focusing on developing their listening, speaking, reading, and writing
skills while adapting to their diverse cultural backgrounds and language proficiency levels, often collaborating with
classroom teachers to ensure comprehensive support and monitor student progress within the mainstream curriculum;
key duties include creating differentiated lesson plans, assessing language acquisition, and facilitating a positive
learning environment that encourages language use and cultural understanding. The ELL educator is under the
direction of the building principal and Director of Special Education.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement engaging English language development lessons aligned with state standards, addressing
individual student needs and learning styles.
- Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress in English language acquisition, utilizing
instruction accordingly.
- Create diverse learning activities and materials to cater to the varying English language proficiency levels within
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate language development into subject areas, co-teach lessons,
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, provide information about the ELL
- Provide targeted support to students through small group interventions, addressing specific language needs
- Stay updated on best practices in English language acquisition, attend relevant workshops and trainings to
- Collaborate with the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team in developing student IEPs, including goals and
- Attend IEP meetings and required staff meetings.
- Compile and analyze data on student progress and use response to intervention to adjust interventions or
strategies as indicated.
- Use technology to communicate and to enhance student learning.
- Maintains appropriate student behavior control and establishes a productive classroom environment.
- Conduct parent conferences.
- Adhere to school district policies and procedures.
- Responsible for State Testing
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong understanding of second language acquisition theory and methodology
- Proficiency in English grammar and vocabulary
- Ability to differentiate instruction based on student needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience working with diverse student populations
- Knowledge of culturally appropriate teaching practices
- Ability to effectively assess student progress
- Bilingual skills (preferred, depending on the context
Physical Demands
The qualified candidate must have no physical limitations. The candidate must be able to lift. Additionally, the candidate
will be trained and must be able to participate in the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) model of behavior management.
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant
lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or
crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing.
The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or
illness.

Minimum Qualifications
A valid Illinois professional educator license issued pursuant to 23. Ill. Adm. Code 25.43 with an ESL Pre-K through
Grade 12 endorsement.
