Radiology Department Aide
- Demonstrate flexibility in starting times to meet demands, inclusive of all shifts and weekend hours
- Ability to rotate through and demonstrate proficiency of responsibilities for all imaging modalities
- Ability to respond to work and/or change assignments at short notice.
- Act as a customer service excellence and information team resource person to Radiology patients, associates and partners.
- Answers questions, solves problems for patients and guests independently or with the assistance of the coordinator, supervisor or manager.
- Alerts Radiology areas of patient arrivals and transport patients to the appropriate areas as needed.
- Regular rounding with patient and family to keep informed of status of their exam.
- Keep complete and detailed rounding logs for each patient seen in Radiology areas.
- Ensure that inpatient and outpatient waiting areas are kept neat, orderly and fully stocked of supplies, gowns and linens.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Request transports to and from the Department and maintains proper documentation.
- Demonstrates the ability to respond to emergency situations such as Code Blue, Cord Red, etc.
- Responds and assists the technical staff when needed.
- Assists technologists with transferring patients from cart to exam table, changing of clothes and washroom assistance.
- Assists in performance improvement activities.
- Obtains lab results and orders for patient’s charts.
- Responsible for providing necessary data to physicians or management as required for particular studies, comparisons or admissions of patients.
- Participate in calling patients to confirm appointment times and or call-backs.
- Answers telephone in a timely manner.
- Coordinate incoming and outgoing calls including recording and reporting of pages and messages.
- Enters or secures patient information in RIS and Allegra to include assistance with patient billing.
- Enters and processes Radiology orders and schedules patients as required.
- Data entry activities as required.
- Maintains a highly competent skill and knowledge level of all information communication systems utilized to include all applications on universal workstation and universal printer, telephone system, paging system, etc…
- Accurately identifies and accesses appropriate computer applications in order to obtain or provide required or requested information
- Foster positive communication between all members of Radiology.
- Demonstrate appropriate telephone etiquette.
- Acknowledge and respond to all internal and external customers.
- Demonstrate “Service Excellence” standards at all times.
- Attend and participate in Department staff meetings.
- Develop skills, knowledge and professionalism by attending in-services, Department/Hospital committees and Continuing Education development programs.
- Assures patient information is accurate via review of patient identification materials, patient ID, insurance card/insurance policy materials.
- Compare and verify provided patient information with system patient information.
- Assures that all patient information is accurately and correctly entered into the patient information system according to established policies and procedures.
- Verify necessary insurance information is obtained; making a copy of patient ID and insurance card.
- Assures all physicians on prescriptions/requisitions are to be entered appropriately into the RIS to ensure the correct physician receives copies of test results (paying close attention to all non-staff physicians).
- Secures medical records on all patients to assist in the Department’s Quality Assurance program.
- Participate in inventory ordering and distribution of department supplies.
- Match goods received with delivery orders.
- Maintain and rotate stock in procedure area while checking for expired items.
- Stock imaging rooms prior to patient exams.
- Maintain supply of forms, i.e.: History worksheets.
- Order supplies and pick up order if needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of immediate work area.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of work and repair orders for Department.
- Works in a timely manner that is in compliance with Hospital Infection Control Standards, OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
- Adheres to department procedures regarding patient and associate safety Education/Experience Required:
- Completion of a medical terminology class or attendance within six months
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- 6 months - 1 year experience
- Strong communication skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Good organization skills
- Basic phone skills
- Computer skills
- CPR certification within 6 months
- The ability to work in a fast paced environment with established time constraints
- The ability to handle multiple tasks and complete work within a short time frame
- The ability to perform medium lifting up to 20-50 lbs. occasionally and/or 10-25 lbs. frequently and/or
- The ability to perform lifting/transferring activities related to patients
- That you may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, various contagious diseases, radiation, electrical equipment, and hazards associate with their use
- The ability to work closely with others
- The candidate must be highly customer service oriented
- The ability to work holidays, weekends and different shifts to accommodate staffing needs
- By virtue of it’s nature, the job is a highly stressful one
