CAD Draftsman

Overview: We are seeking an experienced Municipal CAD Draftsman to join our team at an engineering firm supporting municipalities and private clients in the Chicago area. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing civil engineering plans, designing roadway projects, underground utility and stormwater projects, as well as site development projects. This individual will play a crucial role in the planning and design process, utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D and potentially MicroStation to produce accurate and detailed engineering drawings. The candidate should have a high school diploma, with an Associate's degree or certificate in drafting technology or a related field preferred. Previous experience working with Illinois DOT or local agencies is preferred, and proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required.
Responsibilities:
- Plan Preparation: Prepare civil engineering plans, including plan and profile sheets, cross-sections, and details, in accordance with project requirements and industry standards. Ensure that plans accurately represent proposed infrastructure improvements for roadway, utility, and stormwater projects.
- Roadway Design: Assist in the planning and design of roadway projects, including street improvements, intersections, and traffic control measures. Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to develop alignment, grading, and cross-sections for roadway layouts.
- Utility and Stormwater Design: Contribute to the planning and design of underground utility and stormwater projects, including water distribution systems, sewer improvements, and drainage facilities. Coordinate with engineers to integrate utility and stormwater designs into overall site plans.
- Site Development: Support site development projects, including commercial, residential, and industrial developments. Prepare site layout plans, grading plans, and utility plans to facilitate site construction and development activities.
- Drafting and Drafting Standards: Maintain high standards of drafting quality and accuracy in accordance with company standards and industry best practices. Ensure that all drawings and plans are clear, concise, and compliant with applicable codes and regulations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's degree or certificate in drafting technology or related field preferred.
- Experience working with Illinois DOT or local agencies preferred.
- 2-5 years of experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D required; experience with MicroStation is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate and detailed engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles, including roadway design, utility design, and stormwater management.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
