Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities.
We are searching for a part-time Aqua Fitness Instructor. The Aqua Fitness Instructor is responsible for developing, implementing and instructing the water exercise fitness classes. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and be able to successfully pass a criminal background check. The starting pay for the Adult Swim Lesson Instructor is $25.00 per hour. Plus, we offer park district usage benefits.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Teach water exercise fitness classes in accordance with the District’s instructional swimming program.
Instruct patrons on effective workout techniques and methods by explaining and demonstrating the exercises.
Evaluate the water exercise workouts and recommend changes or new exercises, as needed.
Select and prepare appropriate equipment and music for each class.
Supervise participants in the assigned area of the pool, enforce pool rules, and maintain control during classes.
Assist in inserting lap lines and bringing equipment to the pool area.
Attend required training and meetings.
Perform the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work safety rules, and employee
handbook.
Assist with emergency procedures and follow the directions of the on-shift Pool Manager.
Report any irregular discipline, safety, or maintenance problems to the Pool Manager.
Secondary Duties
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Additional Functions As Assigned, Which May Be Considered Essential.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Manager, Superintendent of Recreation, Director of Recreation, and/or the Executive Director. However, in an emergency, perform all duties as required.
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or have obtained a G.E.D.
Must possess a minimum of one to two years of experience teaching water aerobics or water exercise or, any equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
Must have thorough knowledge of water exercise instruction and techniques.
Must be able to communicate effectively with others for safety purposes and to allow for coordination of work.
Must be able to recognize unsafe conditions and respond accordingly. Must be able to respond to emergency situations quickly while understanding procedures and policies. Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations in order to assure the safety of all swimmers. Must have thorough knowledge of emergency and auxiliary services available in the community when needed in emergency situations. Must have knowledge of pertinent safety precautions.
Must have knowledge of park district pool rules and regulations.
Aqua Fitness Instructors are exposed to indoor and outdoor conditions including water, sun, high humidity, and excessive heat and cold.
Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies.
This position involves standing, sitting, squatting, kneeling, crouching, balancing and lifting. Must be able to use hands for coordination of work, safety and handling of equipment. Must be able to move freely throughout the facility.
Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours could be required. Your work schedule may vary and your workweek may exceed regular hours at times, but will be less than 1,000 hours per year. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the Aqua Fitness Instructor position.
