About the Role

MedOp Solutions is partnering with a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma Center in Elgin, Illinois to hire an experienced Registered Nurse for the Interventional Platform.

This role is focused on intra-procedural care within a high-acuity Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology environment. The RN will assist with advanced cardiovascular and interventional procedures, providing circulating support, sedation, and continuous patient monitoring.

This opportunity is ideal for experienced Cath Lab or IR nurses who thrive in a fast-paced, high-risk procedural setting and are comfortable with frequent call requirements and rapid response times.

Unit Information

• 5 Procedure Rooms Total:
  • 2 Cath Labs
  • 1 EP Lab
  • 1 Hybrid Room
  • 1 IR Room
• Patient Population: Adult (inpatient and outpatient)
• Patient Ratio: 1:1
• Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of Cath Lab or IR experience
• First-Time Travelers: Not accepted
• Floating: May float between Cath Lab and IR based on skillset

Patient Types & Procedures

Cath Lab:

• Diagnostic and interventional heart catheterizations
• Right heart caths
• Impella and balloon pump cases
• Thrombectomies (Anarai, Penumbra)
• STEMI/MI interventions
• CTOs and PFO closures

Electrophysiology (EP):

• Temporary and permanent pacemakers
• Ablations
• MitraClip procedures

Hybrid Procedures:

• AAA repairs
• Watchman procedures
• TAVR
• Carotid interventions

Interventional Radiology (IR):

• Peripheral diagnostic and interventions
• Thrombolysis (EKOS)
• Chest tubes
• Kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty
• Paracentesis/thoracentesis
• CT/RFA ablations
• G-tube placement/exchange
• PICC and tunneled catheter placements
• Nephrostomy tubes and dialysis grafts
• Drain placements

Key Responsibilities

• Circulate during interventional procedures
• Administer and monitor moderate sedation
• Perform cardiac rhythm interpretation and continuous monitoring
• Assist with advanced devices including Impella and balloon pumps
• Support hemodynamic monitoring and patient stabilization
• Maintain sterile technique and procedural efficiency
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams
• Respond to emergency cases during call shifts
• Document all patient care in EPIC

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license
• Minimum 2 years of Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology experience
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required
• Experience with:
  • Circulating and sedation
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Impella and balloon pump support
• Hemodynamic monitoring experience preferred
• Cross-training across Cath Lab and IR preferred

Support on the Unit

• Charge Nurse (primarily support role)
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
• Hospitalist coverage 24/7
• Cardiologist coverage during day; on-call at night
• RRT/Code Team available for emergencies
• Transport support for IR patients

Technology & Equipment

• EMR: EPIC
• Hemodynamic Monitoring: Merge
• EP System: GE Cardio
• Imaging Equipment: Siemens

Scheduling & Expectations

• Day shift with required call
• On-Call Requirements:
  • 10–11 call shifts per month
  • Includes 2 weekends per month (Friday–Sunday)
  • Weekday call: 4:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Weekend call: 4:00 PM Friday – 7:00 AM Monday
  • 30-minute response time required
  • Call team: 3 members (1 RN, 1 tech, 1 additional RN/tech)
• No sleep rooms available
• Holidays: Call coverage required (1–2 holidays per contract)
• Time off requests must be approved by manager

Orientation

• 12 hours of unit orientation
