Precision Metrology Calibration Specialist

ATS - Industrial Maintenance
Pontiac, IL

About the Role

Picture your day beginning at a bustling factory floor or a customer site, toolkit in hand. You review the job scope, pull the right adapters and indicators, and mount the instrument onto a calibration fixture. With controls set for current, timing, pressure, temperature, or vacuum, you bring the equipment to life, watching meters and gauges as you verify performance. If something is off, you methodically adjust the calibration mechanisms using precision tools, lock in the settings with sealing compound, and document the results. When devices can’t be recovered, you flag them for rework or parts salvage and keep production moving.

Between jobs, you prepare calibration certificates and data reports, complete service documentation, and update databases so information is accurate and traceable. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional partners to untangle tricky issues, help craft or refine calibration procedures, and contribute to new product capability standards. When root causes lurk deeper, you may carefully disassemble instruments, diagnose defects, and brief your supervisor on findings. Throughout, you model our Service/Quality Initiative—measuring results, improving processes, completing core quality coursework, living our Core Values, and following all company and customer safety practices.

What You Will Do

  • Travel to customer locations to perform on-site calibration, repair, and technical support as needed.
  • Interpret quality manuals and test specifications to plan and execute calibration activities.
  • Select and install accessories (adapters, gauges, holding devices) and connect instruments to fixtures per specifications.
  • Set up and operate calibration/test equipment; regulate parameters such as current, timing, pressure, temperature, and vacuum.
  • Monitor instrument performance via meters, gauges, and displays; determine calibration requirements and identify functional issues.
  • Adjust mechanisms using precision measurement tools to achieve specified performance; apply sealing compound to secure settings.
  • Reject malfunctioning devices and route for rework or component salvage.
  • Create calibration certificates, data summaries, and required service reports.
  • Maintain databases and support development of new procedures, capabilities, and standards.
  • Disassemble instruments when necessary to diagnose defects and report findings to supervision.

What You Bring

  • Associate’s degree from a junior/technical college and four years of related experience, or an equivalent blend of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and apply safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Clear written communication for reports/correspondence and confident verbal communication when speaking to groups of customers or employees.
  • Strong math background: probability, statistical inference, plane/solid geometry, trigonometry; fluent with fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Sound judgment to follow written, oral, and diagrammed instructions and solve problems with multiple concrete variables in standardized settings.
  • Team-oriented, organized, self-driven, and able to prioritize.
  • Core competencies: Communication, Customer Focus, and Safety.

Technical Proficiencies

  • GD&T
  • 5 Why (Root Cause Analysis Method)
  • ISO 9001 Certification Experience

Tools You’ll Use

  • Calipers and Micrometers

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role is hands-on. You will regularly stand, walk, handle small components, reach with hands/arms, climb ladders or lifts, and balance. You may stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in tight spaces, and communicate clearly in noisy environments. Sitting occurs occasionally. You’ll at times lift and move more than 50 lbs. Close and color vision are used frequently. Work may include exposure to outdoor weather, electrical shock risk, loud factory conditions, hazardous materials, and greasy or slippery floors.

Compensation & Benefits

We practice equitable pay guided by experience, education, achievements, business needs, and location. Our benefits include comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage; paid time off; a 401(k) with employer match; tuition assistance; and more.

Pay Range: $58,240.00—$76,648.00 USD
