Status: Full-Time, Hourly (Non-Exempt)

Pay Grade: Hourly - 3 ($19.89 – $28.74)

Position Overview

The City of Columbia is accepting applications for an Accounting Clerk. This position is responsible for processing financial transactions, managing vendor records, and providing administrative support within the Finance Division. The role also supports utility operations, and serves as a customer-facing presence at City Hall.

Primary Responsibilities

• Process accounts payable transactions, verify invoices, and issue vendor payments
• Reconcile transactions and prepare required annual tax documentation
• Maintain vendor files and ensure tax compliance
• Assist customers at City Hall by accepting utility and license payments
• Coordinate work orders with Department of Public Works, and enter service requests through the City’s CRM system
• Schedule and manage public facility reservations
• Perform general clerical tasks and records maintenance

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in accounting preferred
• 3–5 years of experience in accounts payable or general accounting
• Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Oracle, Tyler, Caselle)
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Excellent organization, communication, and customer service skills
• Ability to handle confidential information and manage multiple priorities

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay Range: $19.89 – $28.74/hour (DOQ)
