Safety Manager - HAZMAT OTR TRUCKING COMPANY
Prestige Transportation is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead fleet safety and regulatory compliance within our commercial trucking operation. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for enforcing DOT and FMCSA compliance, improving driver safety performance, and reducing operational risk across an asset-based fleet.
The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and experienced in building a strong culture of accountability and safety within transportation operations, including hazardous materials compliance and handling procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee fleet safety programs to ensure full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and hazardous materials transportation regulations
- Conduct safety audits, vehicle inspections, and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
- Develop, implement, and enforce driver safety policies, procedures, and compliance standards
- Monitor driver behavior, ELD/log compliance, CSA scores, and overall safety performance
- Ensure proper hazardous materials handling, placarding, documentation, storage, and transportation compliance
- Lead driver onboarding, safety training, hazmat awareness training, coaching, and corrective action programs
- Maintain accurate safety records, compliance documentation, training logs, and reporting systems
- Partner with operations leadership to reduce risk and improve fleet safety outcomes
- Track and analyze safety metrics, including violations, incidents, preventable accidents, and compliance trends
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all certifications, licensing, hazmat requirements, and regulatory standards
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the organization
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in transportation safety, fleet safety, or trucking compliance
- Strong working knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and hazardous materials regulations required
- Prior experience in a trucking, transportation, or logistics environment required
- Experience managing hazmat transportation compliance and driver safety programs preferred
- Proven experience conducting audits, investigations, and compliance enforcement
- Experience managing driver performance and implementing real-world safety programs
- Ability to develop and execute corrective action plans and safety initiatives
- Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
- Comfortable working on-site in a fast-paced fleet or operations environment
- Experience with ELD systems, CSA management, and fleet safety software preferred
