Position Summary

The Intermodal Service Coordinator is the day-to-day point of contact for booking loads and dispatching shipments through all interchanges. You’ll apply your intermodal expertise – shipping methods, carrier costs, products, and services – to meet and exceed customer expectations on every order. Duties may evolve based on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

Oder Fulfillment & Customer Service

1. Meet customer requirements at every stage of the order lifecycle.

2. Analyze load information to determine and verify the best routes and rates, then enter accurate data into the system.

3. Keep customers, Operations, and Sales informed of developments – positive and negative – throughout each order.

4. Maintain detailed account notes documenting each customer’s specific requirements.

Equipment & Carrier Management

1. Source equipment using cost-effective routings that satisfy customer requirements and comply with profitability guidelines.

2. Coordinate with Pricing and Equipment Capacity to secure equipment options and power.

3. Build and maintain carrier relationships; communicate drayman changes to the Pricing department.

Documentation & Systems

1. Ensure all order details in the system are complete and accurate.

2. Manage pickups and obtain required paperwork, including bills of lading and customs documents.

3. Prepare and transmit rail instructions by EDI or fax; stay current on changing rail requirements.

4. Use third- and fourth-party websites to accept load tenders and enter status updates, appointments, and accessorial charges.

Tracing & Issue Resolution

1. Trace and monitor shipments to support on-time performance.

2. Communicate ETAs and appointment information to customers.

3. Resolve load-related issues as they arise; escalate when necessary.

4. Reschedule deliveries as needed and coordinate load status for high-volume customers with the Tracing Team.

5. Manage accessorial and equipment charges and follow up with customer, drayman, and Accessorial Administrator.

Qualifications

Education & Industry Knowledge

1. High school diploma or equivalent required.

2. Bachelor’s or associate degree in Logistics, Business, or a related field is an asset.

3. Minimum 1 year of intermodal experience in the transportation industry.

4. Thorough understanding of intermodal procedures across North America.

5. Strong knowledge of North American geography.

6. Familiarity with Canadian and U.S. customs procedures is an asset, as is experience with cross-border transportation.

Technical Skills

1. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word).

2. Working knowledge of transportation management software such as SAP or AS400.

Work Schedule & Environment

Work Schedule

1. Work a set schedule of eight hours per day, including required meal and rest breaks.

2. Consistently report to work on time and prepared to perform required duties.

3. Ensure work responsibilities are covered during absences.

Work Environment

1. Work in an environment with a usually moderate noise level.

2. Work in a climate-controlled office environment.

Physical Demands

1. Regular physical demands include walking, sitting, using hands and fingers for handling and keyboarding, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and hearing.

2. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $18.93 - $27.04 per hour

Starting pay is based on multiple factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, skills, and job-related knowledge. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
