Med/Surg RN Job Details – Springfield, IL

• Job Title: Travel Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) – Locum Tenens
• Location: Springfield, IL 62781 (Illinois nursing jobs)
• Healthcare Setting: Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: September 15, 2025
• End Date: December 15, 2025
• Shift: Day Shift, 12-hour shifts (06:45 - 19:15), 3x12 or 4x12 per week
• Hours per Week: 36
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend; must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Charting System: Cerner (EMR experience preferred)
• Scrub Color: Any solid color
• Parking: Free with permit
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1890 - $1940

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Current and active Illinois RN license (required for Illinois healthcare jobs)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience in an acute care hospital
• BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross only)
• Proficient with PICC line management and IV starts
• Willingness to care for tracheostomy and laryngectomy patients (training provided)
• Ability to float within scope to meet facility needs
• Capable of managing up to a 1:7 patient ratio
• First-time travel nurses welcome

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, compassionate, and effective nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Perform dressing changes, drain removals, flush drains, suture and staple removal, and nasogastric tube insertion
• Manage central line dressings, intravenous insertions, and suctioning of tracheostomy/laryngectomy patients
• Provide ostomy care, indwelling urinary catheter insertion, and suprapubic catheter changes
• Administer continuous bladder irrigation and blood transfusions
• Utilize specialized equipment such as feeding tube pumps, wound vacs, and patient-controlled analgesics
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
• Float to other units or affiliate hospitals as needed
