Research Assistant Professor

Salary Range: $95,000 - $101,000 Per Year

The University of Chicago’s Department of Neurological Surgery in the Biological Sciences Division is searching for a Research Assistant Professor. The appointee will contribute to the scientific direction of a faculty-approved research program and lead the development and implementation of projects that advance the laboratory’s translational and clinical research mission. Appointees should have the technical knowledge, expertise, experience and accomplishment in research to make meaningful, original, intellectual contributions to research programs.

The appointee will lead the design, execution, and completion of approved research projects, including study design, data acquisition, statistical analysis, interpretation, and manuscript preparation. In collaboration with the principal investigator and research team, the appointee will help conceptualize and advance new research initiatives from idea generation through implementation and dissemination. The role will include conducting statistical and clinical outcomes analyses using multi-institutional and national registry datasets, identifying and developing novel research questions aligned with the laboratory’s scientific priorities, and performing feasibility assessments using available datasets and resources. Appointees are expected to contribute to successful grant applications and are encouraged to apply for and develop their own funding sources in time.

Compensation is dependent upon qualifications. This position is benefits-eligible. The appointee will integrate large clinical datasets and registry data to support translational and clinical research, including data availability assessments and the generation of site-specific reports. Additional responsibilities will include participating in multidisciplinary laboratory meetings, initiating and maintaining research collaborations with other faculty at the University of Chicago, troubleshooting research challenges and implementing new strategies, and providing input on the organization, data handling, and interpretation of current and upcoming clinical trials. The appointee will serve as a resource for data collection and analysis; develop laboratory protocols and training on new techniques; manage, analyze, and make recommendations on complex datasets; create first drafts of scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants and train and mentor laboratory personnel.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a doctoral degree in related field, and 2) have completed postdoctoral training.
