Metallurgical Lab Technologist (Steel Quality)

Step into a day where steel takes shape under the microscope. You’ll join a seasoned Quality team inside a heavy industrial operation, turning raw data into the insights that keep products strong, safe, and consistent.

A Day in the Lab

  • Begin with a safety check, then retrieve and prep test coupons on the band saw and machining equipment (including Mazak tooling and CNC setups).
  • Execute mechanical and metallurgical tests: tensile , impact , grain size , and Jominy hardenability .
  • Perform microstructure/macrostructure evaluations and chemical analyses to characterize material behavior.
  • Capture results with precision using Excel , Word, and internal databases; keep records clean, complete, and traceable.
  • Package and ship select samples for outside testing; coordinate logistics to meet timelines.
  • Care for your workspace—manage consumables (tooling, grinding papers, inserts, saw blades) and complete routine equipment upkeep.
  • Partner with metallurgists on process trials and failure analysis projects that drive improvement.

What You Bring

  • 1+ years in steel, metals, machining, or an industrial laboratory.
  • High school diploma or GED .
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, heavy industrial setting (this is not a medical/sterile lab).
  • Hands-on familiarity with testing machines, Mazak tooling , abrasive systems, or CNC tooling (preferred).
  • Basic computer skills for documentation ( Excel/Word ).
  • Experience in ISO 9001 environments is a plus.
