Senior Java/AWS Specialist

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Development Specialist with expertise in Java and AWS to lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable cloud-based applications. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of Java development, AWS cloud services, microservices architecture, and DevOps practices. This role involves mentoring junior developers, optimizing system performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Application Development & Architecture:
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java-based applications on AWS.
• Implement microservices architecture using Java Spring Boot.
• Optimize application performance and security in a cloud environment.
• Cloud Infrastructure & Deployment:
• Design and deploy AWS cloud solutions using services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS and ECS.
• Develop and optimize microservices architecture hosted on AWS.
• Ensure high availability and fault tolerance of applications using AWS tools and best practices.
• Technical Leadership & Collaboration:
• Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance.
• Collaborate with DevOps, security, and architecture teams to ensure best practices.
• Conduct code reviews and enforce coding standards.
• Monitoring & Optimization:
• Monitor application performance using AWS CloudWatch,.
• Optimize application scalability, cost efficiency, and security on AWS.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues efficiently.
• Security & Compliance:
• Implement best practices for security and compliance in cloud-based applications.
• Ensure secure coding practices and AWS security configurations (IAM, VPC, Security Groups, etc.).

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience:
• 5+ years of Java development experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
• Technical Skills:
• Strong proficiency in Java 8+ and frameworks like Spring Boot, Hibernate, and RESTful APIs.
• Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda, API Gateway, S3, RDS and ECS.
• Experience with Docker and containerization strategies.
• Proficiency in SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB, MongoDB) databases.
• Familiarity with at least one message queues (Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ).
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, Git, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Knowledge of monitoring tools like CloudWatch or ELK Stack.
• Soft Skills:
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an agile environment.

Preferred

Qualifications:

• AWS Certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Developer).
• Experience with serverless computing (AWS Lambda, Step Functions).
• Knowledge of GraphQL, WebSockets, or gRPC.

Note: This role is a combination of office and remote work.

Salary:

$81,400.00 - $151,800.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
