Leak Detection Technician

HPC-Industrial, powered by Clean Harbors, in Roxana, IL is looking for an LDAR Technician to join their safety conscious team at a customer site! The LDAR Technician identifies, documents, and tags fugitive emissions (gas leaks) from industrial components like valves and pumps, ensuring compliance with EPA regulations. They use specialized equipment-such as Toxic Vapor Analyzers (TVAs/Method 21) or Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) cameras-to monitor, report, and facilitate repairs in refineries, chemical plants, and oil/gas sites. Ensure compliance with all Company policies/procedures and maintains/improves good customer relations by providing quality, timely industrial cleaning services.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday-Thursday 4/10s

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that Health & Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies always, & processes & acting in a safe manner

  • Engage in strenuous physical labor including lifting, pulling & pushing heavy objects.

  • Field Inspections: Perform routine, scheduled inspections of components (valves, connectors, pumps, tanks) to detect leaks of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

  • Monitoring Equipment Operation: Operate, calibrate, and maintain analyzers (e.g., Flame Ionization Detectors - FID).

  • Data Management & Reporting: Record inspection data, tag leaking components, and manage inventory within databases like LeakDAS, GuideWare, SkyBridge

  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to environmental regulations (e.g., 40 CFR Subpart 60) and strict site safety protocols.

  • Collaboration: Coordinate with maintenance teams to report leaks and verify repairs.

  • The role is physically active and often involves traveling to remote sites or working within complex, loud industrial environments. It is described as a detail-oriented, sometimes repetitive, but critical role for environmental protection.

Skills and Experience:

  • Must be able to wear protective clothing or equipment. This includes, but is not limited to Nomex coveralls, a back belt, slicker suits, rubber boots, a fresh air breathing mask & escape pack & a hard hat.

  • Must be able to work under extreme climate conditions (excessive high heat index of 95+ degrees Fahrenheit, 98% humidity & subzero weather conditions) relative to geographic location.

  • Must be able to withstand exposure to dust, chemical & environmental, fumes (chemical & fluids), exhaust & highly pressurized fluids.

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to walk long distances, stand for extended periods, climb ladders/scaffolding (sometimes up to 100 ft), and lift up to 60 lbs.

What does it take to work for HPC-Industrial?

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Valid driver's license

  • Confined space entry & 10 Hour OSHA Training (preferred).

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and able to work independently.
