Medical Assistant, Care Transition, Full-Time, Days
Job Description
Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as a Medical Assistant with our Care Transition team in Hyde Park . In this role you will partner with the rest of the clinical team to provide patients the highest quality of care.
Eligible for a Sign-On Bonus up to $1500!
Under the direction of a faculty sponsor and in collaboration with the program support team coordinates population health care needs for patients and potential patients in the community across the care continuum. Acts as a clinical liaison for patients and potential patients across medical service clinical departments and locations. Assesses clinical emotional spiritual psychosocial financial and other patient needs. Evaluates and manages patient care gaps and assists in the integration of care across departments to address those gaps.
The Medical Assistant will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) or Physician assisting with a range of clinical and administrative tasks such asadministering vaccinesconducting EKGs recording vital signs maintaining accurate patient records and collaborating with the healthcare team to enhance patient care.
Essential Job Functions:
- Know and practice the University of Chicago Medical Centers Pride Values and Patient Centered Care Definition and Principles.
- Perform any or all duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the registered nurse or physician and within the scope of the Nursing policies and procedures.
- Appropriately implement and document patient and family education as delegated by the RN or physician.
- Obtain and record vital signs.
- Perform tests i.e. pregnancy tests urinalysis and hemocults etc. specific to the patient population.
- Document all aspects of patient care according to hospital policies and procedures.
- Perform phlebotomy services.
- Assist with collection of specimens. Perform labeling and logging of specimens in compliance with hospital standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A completed High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited body
- A current certificate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training
- Must have phlebotomy experience
- Experience working in a community health setting
- Completion of a certified/registered program for medical assistants that is recognized by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Graduate of a certified program for Medical Assistants (CMA credential)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Considerable skill in communicating verbally in determining priorities and in organizing work; ability to maintain an organized alphabetized filing system
- General working knowledge of PC. Excel Microsoft Word for windows OASIS and EPIC
- Computerized appointment scheduling experience
- Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced environment
- Considerable skill in handling sensitive public contacts with discretion tact and courtesy when dealing with patients coworkers and physicians
- Physical ability to perform stocking lifting and transporting supplies and instruments
Position Details:
- Job Type/FTE: Full Time (1.0 FTE)
- Shift: Days 10 hours 7:45 am - 6:15 pm

In this role we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 40 hours per week. We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work the Day shift from approximately 7:45 am - 6:15 pm and will not be scheduled for on-call shifts. We anticipate you will be scheduled to work 75% at the Hyde Park campus and 25% at various offsite locations. The days of the week that you are scheduled will be Monday - Friday.

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
