About the Firm
McCormick Law & Consulting is a respected and rapidly expanding boutique law firm in Lake Bluff, Illinois. We provide sophisticated, business‑minded legal counsel with the personal attention and agility of a small firm. Our practice is centered on business representation, including both transactional and corporate matters as well as a broad range of civil litigation. We also handle select matters in areas such as intellectual property, real estate, and estate planning.
As we continue to grow, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Associate Attorney to join our team who is looking for meaningful responsibility, direct client exposure, and the opportunity to grow with the practice over the long term.
Position Overview
We are looking for an Associate Attorney with a minimum of 1-5 years of experience who can support and grow within multiple practice areas. This position is ideal for a lawyer who wants to build a well-rounded, business-focused practice with substantive experience on both the transactional and litigation sides.
Our work is not limited to traditional commercial litigation. Much of the firm’s litigation arises from the businesses, business owners, and professionals we represent, but the role also involves broader civil litigation and a wide variety of legal issues affecting our clients. On the transactional side, the associate will assist with contracts, business structuring, governance, and related corporate matters.
This is a hands‑on role within a collaborative, entrepreneurial small-firm environment, offering significant client exposure, direct responsibility, and room for professional advancement. The right candidate will have strong writing and analytical skills, sound judgment, and the desire to develop into a versatile attorney who can contribute meaningfully across the firm’s core practice areas.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse caseload
- Draft and review contracts, operating agreements, corporate compliance documents, and other transactional matters
- Assist with all phases of litigation, including written discovery, motion practice, hearings, depositions, and trial preparation
- Attend hearings, client meetings, and, where applicable, depositions
- Perform legal research and prepare precise, high‑quality written work
- Assist with business formation, governance, compliance, and related legal matters for business clients
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and third parties
- Collaborate with clients to identify needs, develop strategies, and deliver efficient, practical solutions
- Maintain accurate time entries and uphold firm standards for client service
Candidate Requirements
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice in Illinois (REQUIRED)
- Indiana bar admission is a plus, though not required
- 1–5 years of relevant legal experience in one or more core practice areas
- Strong writing, research, and analytical abilities
- Self-motivated, dependable, and ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Detail‑oriented, organized, responsive, and committed to excellent client service
