The WashU Department of Pediatrics is seeking a dedicated, high-energy Staff Nurse II to join its dynamic, outpatient pediatric ambulatory clinic. The Staff Nurse II delivers comprehensive, holistic pediatric care by conducting thorough patient and family assessments, analyzing medical records, and seamlessly coordinating specialized care across disciplines.
Working hands-on in the clinic, the Staff Nurse II provides direct clinical support—including rooming the patients taking vital signs, administering medications and vaccines, monitoring patient status and working in close collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to adjust care processes in real-time, alongside a commitment to driving clinical excellence through quality improvement initiatives and efficient resource management.
• No Nights, Weekends, or Holidays. • Schedule: Offers a consistent schedule with no inpatient rotations. , Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM – 4:15 PM, with occasional late shifts (9:00 AM – 5:30 PM, or until the final patient departs). • Team: Collaborates alongside a passionate, multidisciplinary team of RNs, Medical Assistants (MAs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), and MDs spanning multiple pediatric specialties. • Location: While rooted at the Main St. Louis Children's Hospital (SLCH) location, this position offers opportunities to expand skills and support care at the West County (CSCC), Graham Road, and Shiloh, IL sites as needed. Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family (biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, spiritual and environmental); collects and analyzes data from the medical record in order to coordinate patient care.
- Directs and/or provides patient care, which may include administering medication, performing procedures and monitoring patient status in accordance with approved nursing practice.
- Provides appropriate counsel and education to patients/family regarding disease process and symptom management.
- Maintains medical records requiring appropriate and timely recording of patient information.
- Consults with members of the health care team, adjusting nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Demonstrates cost-effective work habits by setting priorities and properly managing supplies and equipment.
- Assists the health care provider with examinations, procedures, prescription refills and other processes related to direct patient care.
- Participates in quality improvement activities to ensure appropriate clinical outcome.
- Professional contributions, including presentations, preceptorships/mentorships, committee participation, community service, inclusion on research or professional publications or local, regional or national professional organization leadership roles.
- Performs other duties as outlined in specialty-specific job responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Completion of National Specialty Certification relevant to the area where working, if applicable.
Current Missouri RN licensure in accordance with Compact Act.
Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
Advanced clinical skills (e.g., PALS, ACLS, IV Certification, Bone Marrow Biopsy).
