The Field Application Engineering (FAE) Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the Field Application Engineering team across two business units: Utility and Commercial & Industrial (C&I). Regardless of their assigned division, all Field Application Engineers (FAEs) are required to adhere to standardized policies and procedures for managing customer applications, design changes, and new product implementations. The FAE Manager ensures that the team is technically and commercially proficient in representing G&W Electric’s products, while also providing career development and performance oversight. Additionally, the FAE Manager is responsible for department travel and expense management, ensuring that FAEs are optimally assigned to support Regional Vice Presidents in growing national accounts. The FAE Manager will also ensure that FAEs work closely with the application engineering and order management teams to streamline processes and improve efficiency. The FAE Manager is responsible for developing support plans needed for new product designs released for sales, ensuring that FAEs are equipped with the ability to support, position, and embrace the challenges that come with new product releases. Additionally, the manager must collaborate with the marketing team to ensure FAEs have the necessary tools and resources to be successful in their roles.
As a Field Application Engineering Manager you will:
Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage and support FAEs across both the Utility and C&I business divisions.
- Establish and maintain standardized policies and procedures for customer applications, design modifications, and product applications.
- Provide ongoing career development, coaching, and training to enhance the technical and commercial competencies of FAEs.
- Conduct performance evaluations to ensure all FAEs meet the same high standards of technical expertise and customer engagement.
- Ensure proper resource allocation of FAEs to regions, aligning support with strategic sales initiatives.
Customer & Sales Support:
- Collaborate with Regional Vice Presidents and sales teams to align FAE support with business growth objectives.
- Ensure FAEs are well-equipped to engage with customers, national accounts, and consulting firms to provide technical solutions.
- Oversee the accurate and timely resolution of technical inquiries, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Work closely with the engineering team to facilitate design changes and new product applications based on market feedback.
- Ensure FAEs work closely with the application engineering and order management teams to drive customer needs.
- Host customer visits as needed, representing G&W Electric and providing technical expertise.
- Facilitate feedback loops between FAEs, engineering, and product management to enhance product positioning and address field challenges.
- Develop and execute support plans for new product designs released for sales, ensuring FAEs are fully prepared to support, position, and address challenges associated with new product launches.
- Obtain and provide training and resources to FAEs, enabling them to effectively communicate technical and commercial aspects of new product releases.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure FAEs have the necessary tools, documentation, and sales collateral to successfully promote and support new products.
- Travel 20-30% of the time to support FAEs in the field and strengthen customer relationships.
Operational & Financial Oversight:
- Manage the FAE department’s travel and expense budgets, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources.
- Oversee FAE assignments to maximize coverage and support for high-priority regions and accounts.
- Monitor and report on FAE team performance, identifying areas for improvement and growth opportunities.
- Continuously improve business practices to optimize time and efficiency, working with other managers to achieve operational success.
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field; MBA preferred.
- Has a minimum of 8-10 years of experience in field application engineering, technical sales, or a related role.
- Has demonstrated leadership experience in managing technical teams.
- Possesses strong knowledge of electrical systems, power grid automation, and related technologies.
- Has excellent communication, organizational, and strategic planning skills.
- Has the ability to travel as needed to support FAE teams and sales initiatives (20-30% travel expected).
- This role is ideal for a strategic and technically skilled leader who can develop and optimize a high-performing Field Application Engineering team to support G&W Electric’s business growth.
What we offer you:
Typical pay is $111,828 – 148,113 annually.

This position is eligible for participation in our Quarterly Incentive Pay Program
