HR Specialist (Hybrid)

HALO is looking for an HR Specialist is responsible for administering human resources procedures and assisting with the day-to-day HR operations of our group benefit programs. This includes oversight of various benefits such as group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, FMLA, worker's compensation, life insurance, flexible spending plans, health savings accounts, and 401k.

- If you reside within a 30-mile radius of our Sterling, IL office, you are required to work a hybrid schedule, working in-person anywhere from 1-3 times a week.
- If you reside within a 30-mile radius of our Oakbrook, IL office, you may be required to work a hybrid schedule, working in-person anywhere from 1-3 times a week, at a later time.
Responsibilities
Group Benefit Program Management:
- Manage enrollments, eligibility, and status changes for group benefit programs.
- Ensure accuracy, legal compliance, consistency, and confidentiality in benefit administration.
- Enter status changes into HRIS and generate reports.
- Process benefit enrollments for new hires and newly eligible employees.
- Respond to inquiries from employees regarding benefits.
- Administer benefit claim resolution, change reporting, and COBRA compliance with third-party administrators and carriers.
- Assist in annual 401(k) plan independent audit and non-discrimination testing.
- Reconcile monthly insurance billings and process payments.
FMLA/LOA and ADA Accommodations:
- Administer FMLA/LOA requests, tracking eligibility, medical certifications, and return-to-work efforts.
- Coordinate return to work and ADA accommodation requests with ER/Compliance Specialist.
Workers' Compensation:
- File and report workers' compensation claims.
- Follow up and coordinate light-duty assignments and return-to-work requirements.
- Complete and annually post OSHA 300 log.
Tuition Reimbursement and Recognition Programs:
- Process and track tuition reimbursement requests and reimbursements.
- Administer the HALO recognition program (Breakthrough).
Backup Responsibilities:
- Serve as a backup to ER/Compliance Specialist & Benefits Administrator.
Other Duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in human resource management or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Minimum of 3+ years of proven work experience as an HR Specialist or HR Generalist.
- Solid understanding of Federal, State, and local labor and employment laws.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with or knowledge of Payroll & HRIS systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Patience and sensitivity in handling personal information in potentially stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Time management and prioritization skills.
- Excellent spelling, grammar, and attention to detail.
- Creative problem-solving capabilities.
- Flexibility and ability to work well in a team environment
