Position Title: Workforce Development Specialist

Site Location: 409 Devonshire Dr, Champaign, IL

Term of Service: Complete 675 hours of service between date of hire and Aug 31, 2026.

675 hours is reduced half time for AmeriCorps.

Time Requirements: Availability until 6:00PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays is required. Exact schedule will be negotiated during the interview process. Some availability for evening and weekend opportunities to participate in special events is preferred but not required.

Purpose

Serve under the direction of the Social Services Director to provide case management, including: housing and medical coverage application assistance, translation and interpretation, and referrals. Provide household-stabilizing resources to Southern Border Arrivals and recently arrived low-income immigrant families in downstate Illinois in compliance with federal, state, and agency programmatic guidelines.

Immigration Project’s Mission

Recognizing that access to accurate, complete information regarding immigration law is geographically and economically restricted for underserved immigrant populations in downstate Illinois, the Immigration Project endeavors to provide access to justice for immigrants and their families through immigration-related legal and educational services to immigrants, refugees, their families and others in downstate Illinois, in a manner and context which recognizes the full dignity of each individual.

Description of Duties

• Assist with visits to the Social Security office to get SS card
• Assist with job applications, and preparing for job interviews, including translating and interpreting
• Lead “job readiness” presentations and workshops
• Connect with employers to find good jobs for people who newly have work authorization
• Provide resource information and referrals by telephone, videoconference, and in person
• Assist clients with applications for housing, including translating applications and interpreting or advocating with landlords.
• Assist clients with the application for asylum,legal screenings, and work authorization under the supervision of an attorney.
• Create case management plans with the goal of helping clients find jobs up to living wage, including finding childcare, transportation, healthcare, and reducing other barriers to employment.
• Attend training and weekly meetings

Position Requirements

• Applicants must be bilingual Spanish-English.
• Per Americorps requirements, applicant must be a lawful permanent resident or a citizen of the United States
• Typing, some familiarity with Word or Google docs, email
• Reliable transportation
• Organized and detail-oriented
