About the Malta Business Registry (MBR)

The Malta Business Registry, established under Subsidiary Legislation 595.27, is responsible for the registration of new commercial partnerships, the registration of documents related to commercial partnership, the issuing of certified documentation including certificates of good-standing amongst others, the reservation of company names, the collection of registration and other fees, the publication of notices and the imposition and collection of penalties. The Registry also conducts investigations of companies and the keeping of the company and partnership register.

The Role

The selected candidate, as Associate Analyst in Grade 9 will be reporting to the Chief Officer / Head of the Legal and Enforcement Unit and will be entrusted with responsibilities relating to the following duties which shall include:

  • To assist senior officers within the function in preparing submissions, including the organisation of documents, and drafting of replies or applications for Court sittings;
  • To liaise with Legal Procurator/s (LPs) regarding presentation of court documents and appear before the Courts on behalf of the Registrar;
  • To draft the necessary legal letters in relation to enforcement for recovery of outstanding penalties and keep a register of same;
  • To draft legal letters on matters which may arise and to keep a register of all such letters sent;
  • To assist the Chief Officer / Head of the Unit or any other senior officer within the function in meetings, both internal and external, and keeping a register and minutes of such meetings;
  • To prepare for the necessary publications for newspaper and Registrar’s website and co-ordinate with newspaper;
  • To review any work performed by the Administrative Officer/s and Clerk/s within the Unit and assist as necessary with replies to requests for information submitted by the Executive Police, FIAU or other competent and supervisory authority;
  • To conduct research and prepare summaries or reports on EU legislative instruments in company law matters, including digitalisation;
  • To assist in replies to local or EU/international bodies for questionnaires, reports, or surveys in matters of company law.

Furthermore s/he will be expected to assist in other duties as may be directed from time to time either by the Chief Officer / Head of the Unit or by any other official to whom the Chief / Head’s authority is delegated.

Any other duties described above may change depending on the exigencies of the Unit and/or the MBR.

About You

(i) Preference will be given to candidates who possess a University of Malta Degree in Law (LL.D) or Accounting or Banking & Finance or equivalent academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC)* or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level; OR

(ii) Consideration will also be given to Candidates with an NQF Level 5 Diploma in a related area and three (3) years prior work experience in an assistant managerial role within a related area; OR

(iii) Candidates who at least possess five (5) years’ prior experience in an assistant managerial role within a related area.

* It is the responsibility of applicants in possession of qualifications awarded by Universities and other similar institutions outside Malta to produce a recognition statement on comparability of qualifications issued by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC). Appeal Procedure
