Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to provide strategic leadership in transforming our data landscape from a traditional on-premises SQL Server to a modern, cloud-based architecture leveraging Microsoft Azure and AWS platforms. This role will report into the Data Engineering team within the Investments Technology organization, driving innovation and operational excellence in database management.

This position is a hybrid role, meaning your schedule may consist of time in an office setting and time working remotely from your home. The hybrid model is intended to provide greater flexibility and will mean something different to each team, job and employee. Office presence is driven by the nature of the work and team needs. Youll work from home for the remainder of the time youre not in the office. This position is eligible for a monthly connectivity reimbursement to offset the costs of internet and phone expenses.

Key Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the Data Transformation Journey
    Drive migration from on-prem SQL Server to cloud platforms implementing scalable, secure, and high-performing databases.

  • Team Mentorship
    Mentor a small team of DBAs, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

  • Performance and Optimization
    Ensure optimal performance, availability, and security of databases across hybrid environments aligning to Allstate security requirements.

  • Governance and Compliance
    Implement best practices for data governance, security, and compliance in cloud and hybrid setups aligning to Allstate security requirements.

  • Collaboration
    Work closely with Enterprise engineering aligning Investments with enterprise data strategy. Work closely with Investments product and business teams aligning with organizational goals.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • 10+ years in database administration with strong expertise in SQL Server ( Oracle experience is a plus) .

  • 3+ years in Azure and/or AWS cloud platforms .

  • Exposure to Microsoft Fabric and OneLake is a strong plus.

  • Proven experience coaching DBA teams and driving large-scale database migrations.

  • Database performance tuning, high availability, disaster recovery.

  • Familiarity with Delta Lake , Parquet , and modern data architectures.

  • Strong understanding of security and compliance in cloud environments.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and strategic thinking.

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is 98,100.00 - 167,850.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
