Job Description:
The Billing & Authorizations Coordinator will support the revenue cycle department by managing insurance authorizations, overseeing aspects of therapy billing, and assisting with credentialing activities. This role works closely with leadership to ensure services are properly authorized, documented, and billed accurately.
This is a full-time, hourly position with the opportunity to transition to a permanent role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and submit insurance authorization requests for therapy services in a timely manner
- Monitor authorization requirements and ensure compliance with payer guidelines
- Track expiration dates and proactively secure renewals to avoid disruption in services
- Follow up with insurance carriers regarding pending approvals or additional documentation needs
- Communicate authorization updates and requirements with internal providers and leadership
- Maintain organized tracking systems for approvals, denials, and payer communications
- Ensure approved services are accurately reflected for billing purposes
- Review, audit, and process billing for designated therapy services
- Assist with provider credentialing follow-up and maintain verification records
- Update credentialing logs and provider documentation to ensure regulatory compliance
- Support internal audits and accreditation preparation as needed
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure client accounts remain current and billing is accurate
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 2–5 years of hands-on insurance billing and authorization experience (full-cycle experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of revenue cycle management processes
- Experience navigating multiple billing or EMR systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to tone and professionalism
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable communicating directly with insurance representatives
- Experience with ABA or Speech therapy billing/authorizations preferred
- Familiarity with Waystar or Availity is a plus
- Bilingual skills preferred, but not required
Work Schedule:
- Monday–Friday
- Flexible start time between 8:00–9:00 AM
- Full 8-hour workday
- Hybrid schedule available after approximately 1 month of training (2–3 days remote)
- Overtime available as needed
