As a Scientist I on the Materials Science & Characterization Team, you will apply advanced microscopy, spectroscopy, and physical characterization techniques to evaluate pharmaceutical product quality and resolve complex technical challenges across the product lifecycle. Operating within a state-of-the-art North Chicago research and innovation facility, you will collaborate with cross-functional scientific teams to drive root-cause investigations and deliver data that informs critical pipeline decisions. location: North Chicago, Illinois

education: Bachelors responsibilities:
- Perform characterization studies and testing of pharmaceutical materials to support active development programs and root-cause investigations.
- Execute microscopy, spectroscopy, and physical characterization analyses using specialized laboratory instrumentation.
- Interpret experimental data and present scientific findings through clear reports and technical discussions.
- Assist in troubleshooting method execution, performing data review, and identifying trends during technical problem-solving.
- Document all experimental work, procedures, and observations accurately in an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN).
- Maintain strict compliance with safety practices, regulatory guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
qualifications:
Required Skills & Education:
- B.S. degree in a physical science (e.g., Chemistry, Physics), Materials Science, or Engineering with relevant hands-on laboratory experience, or a Master's degree (M.S.) in a related scientific discipline.
- Proven experience executing one or more core physical characterization or imaging techniques: Optical Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Dynamic Vapor Sorption (DVS), Particle Size Analysis, X-Ray Powder Diffraction (XRPD), Infrared (IR) Spectroscopy, or Raman Spectroscopy.
- Precise written documentation skills and experience keeping an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN).
- Strong verbal communication and technical presentation abilities.
- Background in root-cause analysis and investigation of pharmaceutical process or product issues.
- Demonstrated adaptability, fast-learning capability, and proactive problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
