We’re looking for a Principal Designer – AI Experiences with exceptional visual and UI design mastery—a leader who elevates AI‑powered products through clarity, precision, and refined interface design. In this role, you will define how intelligent systems look, feel, and communicate, using high-fidelity design and prototyping to shape intuitive, beautiful, and trustworthy experiences across Expedia Group’s ecosystem.

Team description:

We’re a multidisciplinary design team shaping the future of travel through human-centered, AI-powered experiences. Our mission is to help travelers imagine, plan, book, and manage every part of their journey across Expedia Group’s family of brands and platforms — with clarity, delight, and confidence.

As a Principal Designer, AI Experiences, you will define the future of how travelers engage with intelligent, conversational, and agentic systems across Expedia Group’s ecosystem. You’ll lead through vision and craft—designing end-to-end AI-driven experiences that inspire trust, elevate simplicity, and redefine what’s possible in digital travel. Your work will influence design strategy, system evolution, and hands-on prototyping, setting new standards for inclusive, responsible, and data-informed design.

Business Contribution/Impact:

This role drives measurable business impact by translating AI strategy into inspiring, customer-centered experiences that increase engagement, conversion, and loyalty. Through visionary design and prototyping, it helps identify new revenue opportunities, streamline customer journeys, and improve operational efficiency. By defining the design standards for AI-powered travel, this role advances both customer satisfaction and Expedia Group’s competitive differentiation.

In this role, you will:

  • Translate strategic vision into high-impact visual stories and prototypes that clarify, align, and accelerate the future of AI-driven travel experiences across Expedia Group.

  • Lead through making, applying exceptional UI and visual design craft alongside high‑fidelity prototyping to explore, validate, and communicate concepts.

  • Advance next‑generation interfaces by envisioning new paradigms for conversational, multimodal, and adaptive AI-driven experiences.

  • Design for agentic and mixed‑initiative interactions, creating visually intuitive feedback mechanisms that support uncertain or probabilistic system states.

  • Evolve Expedia’s design system to support AI‑native patterns, adaptive layouts, and intelligent interface behaviors.

  • Integrate data‑informed design principles that ensure personalization, prediction, and automation are expressed through cohesive, accessible UI systems.

  • Develop visual frameworks and pattern architectures that promote consistency, trust, and clarity across all surfaces and contexts.

  • Create high‑fidelity visual storytelling artifacts—layouts, flows, motion studies, and prototypes—to align teams and articulate design intent.

  • Foster a culture of open critique, inclusion, and curiosity centered on raising the standard of UI craft.

  • Collaborate across disciplines to align on strategy, share insights, and elevate AI‑driven interface quality.

  • Champion the traveler’s voice in every AI interaction, ensuring experiences remain transparent, empathetic, and empowering.

  • Partner with research and data teams to understand behavioral patterns, context, and intent—translating insights into adaptive design strategies.

  • Embed responsible AI design principles that prioritize fairness, explainability, and user trust.

  • Exceptional visual and UI design craft, including mastery of layout, typography, hierarchy, color, and component‑level refinement.

  • Ability to translate complex AI behaviors into clear, elegant, and expressive interface patterns.

  • Expertise in developing high‑fidelity prototypes that illustrate nuanced interaction states and polished interface execution.

  • Skill in crafting visual narratives and motion studies that communicate how AI behaviors evolve over time.

  • Demonstrated capability in defining modern, high‑quality digital product interfaces supported by scalable visual systems.

Minimum qualifications:

  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience Design, Cognitive Science, or related design or technical field; or equivalent related professional experience

  • Portfolio demonstrating exceptional UI and visual design craft through modern, high‑quality digital product interfaces.

  • Expertise defining and evolving UI patterns and interface-level design systems, particularly for intelligent or adaptive interaction models.

  • Mastery in visual design, UI layout, component design, and high‑fidelity prototyping, with strong proficiency across UX, system design, and motion fundamentals.

  • Experience designing AI-powered interfaces with clear strategies for state management, system feedback, and multimodal interaction patterns.

  • Deep understanding of AI and conversational design tools and methods, including prototyping with LLMs, prompt engineering, data-informed interaction design, and expert knowledge of modern design and prototyping platforms including but not limited to Figma, Cursor, etc.
