Preschool Teacher

Job Description

The Preschool Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading a preschool classroom with the assistance of a teacher aide.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education required
• Current enrollment in the Early Childhood program with minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a preschool or similar early childhood setting required
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as plan and implement creative, developmentally appropriate activities
• Current CPR and First Aid certification required, or ability to obtain certification prior to start date

Immediate Supervisor:

The Preschool Teacher is responsible to the Recreation Supervisor.

Essential Functions:

1. Planned, organized, and conducted a preschool classroom under the Park District program philosophy and policies.
2. Establish good working relationships with students, parents, recreation supervisors, co-workers, and the community.
3. Discuss children's conduct and progress with the Recreation supervisor and parents frequently.
4. Maintain and supervise the use and care of the classroom, equipment, and supplies. Report needed repairs and replacements (as soon as noticed), request particular set up (one week in advance), and order supplies and equipment by the established timeline.
5. Complete Accident Incident reports on all injuries/incidents on children while in attendance at preschool and inform parents and supervisor immediately.
6. Attend and participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, in-services, and student field trips.
7. Supervise the use and care of Park District supplies, equipment, and facilities.
8. Maintain the classroom, equipment, and supplies and report promptly the need for repair or replacement.
9. Follow the procedure for arranging for a substitute when needed.
10. Create lesson plans for substitutes.
11. Assisted in classroom setup in the morning, afternoon, and at the end of the day.
12. Check each child's ePACT form for completion, and you are alert to any particular circumstances or needs.
13. Inform parents of preschool class closings due to inclement weather or facility issues.
14. Monitor children and determine if accommodations or referrals may be necessary.
15. Serves as a Mandated Reporter for the state of Illinois.
16. Guide teacher aide of classroom activities.
17. Communicate regularly with parents through weekly or monthly newsletters to provide updates on classroom activities, student progress, and upcoming events.

Psychological Considerations:

May need to resolve differences and problems that arise between children and other staff.

Physiological Considerations:

Must have the ability to listen, hear, and speak. Use of hands and fingers will regularly be required, as well as the ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods.

Environmental Considerations:

Activities are performed indoors and outdoors; conditions can include but are not limited to weather conditions and building maintenance.

Cognitive Considerations:

Must possess good safety awareness and judgment. Must be friendly and like to work with people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
