General Summary:
Provides leadership within designated area(s) of responsibility to manage patient care operations and ensure the delivery of excellent patient care. Leads team in creating a work environment that engages staff in the attainment of department and organizational goals and vision. Understands and integrates into the delivery of patient care the needs of the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patient in regards to their growth and development process. Actively leads continuous improvement in safety, quality, and customer service, through behavior modeling and by provision of work environment conducive to attaining these goals.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Structures the environment and provides resources to assure clinical excellence for patient care operations within designated area(s) of responsibility; provides administrative and clinical leadership for the multidisciplinary team with 24 hour accountability.
2. Accountable for achievement of strategic outcomes; collaborates in outreach efforts; assures the delivery of comprehensive, safe, effective and appropriate care in accordance with hospital policy and practice standards; accountable to applicable regulatory and licensing requirements.
3. Utilizes a keen understanding of the clinical knowledge, educational support and research endeavors necessary to create excellence in patient care and relevant area(s) of specialty; develops and implements systems that ensure standardization of clinical practice; identifies, develops and monitors progress toward achievement of both unit and corporate goals and objectives; serves as a leader and guide in the project management and process improvement processes.
4. Participates in operational planning processes; plans and facilitates multidisciplinary communication to assure the flow of information; develops, implements and evaluates the effectiveness of operational processes within designated area(s) of responsibility and throughout the organization.
5. Leads and facilitates quality improvement initiatives for designated area(s) of responsibility and throughout the organization; plans and implements system changes that enhance organizational performance; institutes practice changes based upon evidence-based outcomes from the monitoring and evaluation of quality activities and/or nursing research.
6. Accountable for financial management; plans, prepares and monitors capital and operating budget in collaboration with the administrator, Medical Director and multidisciplinary team members; establishes & maintains unit systems that support financial management accountability within designated area(s) of responsibility.
7. Leads and manages people resources, responsible for the selection and ongoing development of the all staff within designated area(s) of responsibility; assures clinical expertise of staff in collaboration with unit leadership and Clinical Educator by providing educational and professional development opportunities and creatively coordinating their implementation; identifies opportunities for, and develops interdependent teams: empowers individuals to be more self-directed and interdependent.
8. Pursues professional opportunities and networks which enhance own professional knowledge and advancement as well as excellence within designated area(s) of responsibility and Nursing as whole.
9. Facilitates collaborative partnerships with physicians and multidisciplinary team members to ensure that the needs of the patients are met.
10. The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations.
11. Other job functions as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Graduate of an accredited program in Nursing at either the baccalaureate or graduate level and graduate of an accredited Masters program in nursing, health care administration or business required.
2. RN licensure in the state of Illinois.
3. ANCC recognized certification relevant to area of responsibility required within 12 months of hire.
4. Possess a broad knowledge of issues, trends, practices, and systems related to pediatric health care delivery and relevant area of specialty acquired through a minimum of 3 years of experience in a healthcare environment; and previous experience working in partnership with health care professionals in progressive leadership roles.
5. Demonstrated strong leadership skills, ability to lead a team; excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent organizational skills.
6. Fundamental understanding of budgeting process from creation through monitoring/analyzing of variance; and fundamental understanding of hospital information systems.
7. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in a collaborative and facilitative style.
8. Basic Life Support Certification required

Pay Range
$119,600.00-$197,350.40 SalaryAt Lurie Childrens, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position. Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions. In addition to base salary, Lurie Childrens offer a comprehensive rewards package that may include differentials for some hourly employees, leadership incentivesfor select roles, health and retirement benefits, and wellbeing programs.
