Youth Basketball Coach – 5th & 7th Grade

NG Select is seeking motivated, knowledgeable, and dependable Youth Basketball Coaches to lead our 5th grade and 7th grade teams in Rockford, IL and New Berlin, WI.

We are looking for coaches who are passionate about youth basketball and player development and who can create a positive, competitive, and structured environment for young athletes.

Job Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct organized basketball practices.
• Teach and develop fundamental basketball skills, including shooting, ball handling, passing, footwork, finishing, rebounding, and defense.
• Develop players' basketball IQ, decision-making, and understanding of team concepts.
• Prepare players and teams for league games, tournaments, and competitive events.
• Provide individual instruction and constructive feedback to players.
• Teach offensive and defensive concepts appropriate for the team's age and skill level.
• Create competitive, game-like practice situations.
• Promote teamwork, discipline, accountability, confidence, and sportsmanship.
• Communicate professionally with parents regarding schedules, team expectations, and player development.
• Attend scheduled practices, games, tournaments, and team events.
• Maintain a positive and professional coaching environment.
• Work with NG Select directors and other coaches to maintain consistent program standards.
• Represent NG Select in a professional manner at all practices, games, tournaments, and events

5th Grade Coaching Focus

The 5th grade coach will focus heavily on fundamentals, skill development, basketball IQ, decision-making, and learning team concepts .

The goal is to build a strong foundation while teaching players how to compete, communicate, defend, make reads, and play effectively as a team.

7th Grade Coaching Focus

The 7th grade coach will focus on advanced player development, basketball IQ, competitive team play, and preparation for higher levels of basketball .

The coach will be responsible for challenging players to improve their decision-making, offensive execution, defensive awareness, leadership, physicality, and ability to perform in game situations.

Qualifications

• Previous youth basketball coaching experience preferred.
• Competitive basketball playing or coaching experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals and team concepts.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to teach and motivate young athletes.
• Dependable, organized, and professional.
• Ability to create a positive but competitive team environment.
• Must be comfortable communicating with players, parents, and program staff.
• Commitment to player development and the overall growth of young athletes.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who understands that youth basketball is about more than winning games . Our coaches are responsible for developing athletes while helping players build confidence, discipline, teamwork, leadership, and a strong work ethic.

Position Details

Position: Youth Basketball Coach
Teams: 5th Grade and/or 7th Grade
Job Type: Part-Time
Schedule: Practices, games, tournaments, and team events
Compensation: Competitive; based on coaching experience, responsibilities, and schedule

Have to have AAU and USA Gold license or be able to pass a background check to obtain them.
