Support Services Specialist
The Office of Statewide Pretrial Services’ (OSPS or Office) is a statewide office that provides pretrial services under the Pretrial Services Act, 725 ILCS 185. The Office’s mission is to assist in the administration of justice and promote community safety by ensuring fairness and equality in the pretrial process. OSPS prepares pretrial investigation reports for the courts and supervises individuals released from custody as directed by the court.
The Support Services Specialist of the Office of Statewide Pretrial Services (OSPS) assists in the administration of OSPS grant programs and provides support services resources to individuals supervised by OSPS on pretrial release. The Support Services Specialist works under the direction of the Support Services Chief.
Current Available Shift:
Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
*Shift will be determined to fit operational which may include working weekends.
FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
· Assists Pretrial Services Officers (PSOs) and Pretrial Field Officers (PFOs) in providing defendants with access to community, state, and federal resources; document services provided per established policies and procedures.
· Delivers supportive services directly to defendants as needed or requested by OSPS staff, ensuring timely, efficient, equitable, and defendant-centered support.
· Manages vendor relationships and oversee procurement, distribution, and reconciliation of transportation tokens for OSPS defendants.
· Manages vendor relationships and oversees procurement, distribution, and reconciliation of personal care kits for OSPS defendants.
· Collaborates with victim advocates and State’s Attorneys’ offices to gather victim-related information to help define appropriate electronic monitoring zones as needed and support community safety.
· Builds and maintains productive relationships with internal staff, external stakeholders, and subject matter experts.
· Assists with the completion and tracking of OSPS grant deliverables.
· Supports the Support Services Chief in maintaining forms, standards, guidelines, and operational procedures.
· Participates in the review of Support Services operations to ensure compliance with OSPS policies and procedures.
· Contributes to OSPS committees and workgroups as assigned.
· Stays informed on developments and best practices in pretrial services, criminal justice, and community corrections.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Qualifications:
1. A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience in social science, public administration, criminal justice, or a related field.
2. Three or more years professional working experience in a public or private organization.
3. A valid Illinois Driver’s License and proof of automobile insurance to operate a personal vehicle on state business, as well as maintain a safe driving record.
4. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Five or more years professional working experience in a public or private organization.
2. Two or more years of progressively responsible experience in pretrial services.
3. Two or more years’ experience managing grants.
4. Two or more years’ experience with project management.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
1. Effective oral and written communication, presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
2. Ability to plan, organize, implement, and maintain a variety of functions and projects simultaneously and meet required deadlines and schedules.
3. Ability to positively and professionally interact with co-workers.
4. Demonstrated leadership skills including planning and priority setting, sound decision-making, problem-solving, and analytic and interpretive skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to sit for extended time periods.
2. Professional office working environment requiring telephone usage and ability to process written documents.
3. Ability to travel, including overnight stays, as required.
