American Freedom Insurance Company (AFIC) is a leader in the nonstandard automobile insurance industry. We are an expanding midsized, highly profitable company doing business in Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and soon Texas. We are looking for a dedicated HR professional to contribute their skills in a fast paced and growing organization. AFIC is a financially strong "A+" Superior rated insurance company by A.M. Best.

This position is based in Mount Prospect, IL, a suburb of Chicago and is responsible for overseeing the Human Resources function for our company which includes payroll, benefits, recruiting, employee relations and legal compliance.

Core Responsibilities:

• Promote a positive work environment and be a role model for company personnel
• Develop, maintain, enforce and communicate HR policies and procedures
• Manage employee relations, partnering and coaching leaders as needed
• Administer employee benefit programs
• Stay informed and ensure compliance of employment laws and regulations in applicable states, including IL, AL, CA, FL, MO, NJ, TX where American Freedom employees are based
• Lead/process payroll and manage timekeeping systems
• Provide input on staffing needs and plans
• Identify and promote process improvements
• Work with department managers to develop and implement recruiting strategies
• Coordinate the hiring process, including job offers and onboarding
• Manage employee separations/terminations
• Build and maintain appropriate resources including peer networks to stay on top of HR best practices
• Provide day to day direction and leadership to one Recruiting Specialist

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field
• 3+ years Human Resources experience
• Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations
• Excellent communication skills
• Attention to detail and high quality of work
• Ability to problem solve and find solutions expeditiously
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency with technology, primarily Microsoft Office - Word and Excel
• Preferred Qualifications:
• HRCI or SHRM certification
• Multi-state and/or non-exempt payroll experience
• Experience working with a smaller business

The Position:

• Regular Full Time (40hrs per week) 8am-5pm Monday-Friday
