Software engineering manager

Job Description

A large retail company is seeking a hands-on Software Engineering Manager to lead the development team through an exciting transformation: migrating from Salesforce Commerce Cloud to a modern headless ecommerce frontend built on NextJS with a Salesforce Commerce Cloud backend. This isn't just a management role-you'll be in the trenches with your team, architecting solutions and solving complex technical challenges while fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning. Depending on overall skills and experience the salary range for this position is from $150,000 to $170,000 per year.

What You'll Do

Leadership & Team Management:

Lead and mentor a team of software developers in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Foster a culture where everyone contributes, learns, and isn't afraid to tackle any challenge.

Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with product, design, and business stakeholders.

Champion clear, direct communication across all levels of the organization.

Support team growth through regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning.

Technical Leadership

Guide the migration strategy from Salesforce Commerce Cloud to NextJS-based headless architecture.

Architect scalable, maintainable solutions for complex ecommerce challenges.

Make critical technical decisions while balancing business needs and technical debt.

Ensure code quality, security, and performance standards across the team.

Stay current with headless commerce trends, NextJS ecosystem, and modern development practices.

Project Execution:

Drive the headless ecommerce migration from conception to production.

Break down complex initiatives into manageable, executable roadmaps.

Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the migration process.

Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements, timelines, and success metrics.

Jump in wherever needed-whether that's debugging code, reviewing architecture, or coordinating releases.

Skills and Requirements

5+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years in engineering management.

Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript, React, and NextJS ecosystem.

Experience with ecommerce platforms, APIs, and headless architecture principles.

Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and modern development workflows.

Previous experience with Salesforce Commerce Cloud or similar enterprise ecommerce platforms strongly preferred. Experience with headless CMS platforms (Storyblok, Contentful, etc.).

Knowledge of modern ecommerce tools and integrations (payment processors, inventory management, analytics).

Background in performance optimization and scalability planning.

Previous experience managing platform migrations or modernization initiatives.

Familiarity with agile methodologies and modern project management practices. null
