About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Neuro Medical/Surgical Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum three (3) years of relevant nursing experience License: Illinois state RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: - Trauma Level 1 experience - EPIC experience Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. Provides care to patients by utilizing the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial, and human resources within the philosophy of the institution. Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure integration of information for use by the healthcare team. Completes initial assessments upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care based on patient and family needs. Implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicates with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues. Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. Confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base. Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solutions. Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Receives patient Bedside Shift Report from an RN at the beginning of each shift. Ensures inclusion of patient input and visual validation of a safe patient room environment at the time of shift change. Updates the patient communication board found in each patient room. Delegates patient care tasks and responsibilities to assigned healthcare team members. Validates completion of delegated tasks throughout the shift. Completes and documents basic RN patient care activities such as assessments and interpretation of vital signs. Ensures physician order completion, admission and discharge of patients, and hourly rounding completion on each assigned patient. Documents care plans and patient education. Meets nursing documentation standards for each assigned patient. Provides patient medications utilizing the patient 5 Rights: Right Patient, Right Medication, Right Route, Right Dose, and Right Time. Maintains patient safety as the highest priority by ensuring compliance with safety measures such as fall precautions and pressure ulcer prevention. Fosters a healthy work environment and a healing patient environment. Keeps a diligent focus on prompt answering of patient call lights to ensure effective triage and completion of patient requests. Uses critical thinking to evaluate overall patient condition. Utilizes nursing judgment to identify and act on changes in patient status. Effectively communicates within the healthcare team to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, effective patient care coordination, and patient safety. Provides competent care for patients displaying mild to severe brain injury due to stroke, trauma, or surgery. Identifies and responds immediately to neurological changes and seizure activity. Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided. Completes initial assessments upon patient admission and develops appropriate plans of care. Implements and modifies plans of care as needed. Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety. Communicates effectively to resolve issues. Offers feedback to assist in professional development. Identifies learning needs and initiates solutions. Fulfills departmental competency requirements.
