Lead API Developer

We’re seeking a Lead Engineer to support and improve our Fastify APIs. You’ll focus on monitoring, troubleshooting, fixing production issues, and building runbooks/playbooks. You’ll also mentor teammates, participate in on-call rotations, and help shape operational standards as we move to a microservices architecture.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor and maintain API reliability, performance, and uptime
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues quickly
• Develop and update runbooks/playbooks for incident response
• Implement and improve monitoring and alerting systems
• Mentor and onboard new team members
• Collaborate with engineering and data teams to align development and operations
• Participate in on-call rotations and post-incident reviews
• Lead the design and implementation of backend systems and APIs.
• Drive architectural decisions and partner with the business for strategic decisions.

Qualifications:

• Experience supporting Fastify APIs in production
• Strong skills in monitoring, alerting, and incident response
• Familiarity with observability tools
• Leadership or mentoring experience
• Experience with microservices and cloud environments is a plus
• Ability to work 100% Remote

Technical Experience:

• Proficiency in languages such as Java, Python, Ruby, PHP, or Node.js.

• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB).

• Familiarity with version control systems like Git.

• Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL.

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $70.00/hr.
