Tax Manager – State and Local (SALT)
Job Overview
A leading public accounting firm is seeking a highly skilled State and Local Tax (SALT) Manager with extensive experience in partnership taxation. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise in state and local tax laws, regulations, and compliance, particularly as they apply to partnerships and investment entities. This role involves providing strategic tax guidance to clients, managing complex SALT issues, and leading a team of professionals in delivering exceptional service. The firm offers a flexible hybrid work model, allowing you to choose which days you work in the office.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on state and local tax matters related to partnerships, including compliance, planning, and structuring.
- Oversee preparation and review of state tax returns for multiple fund-of-funds and investment partnerships.
- Advise clients on state nexus and related filing requirements for entities and individuals.
- Determine allocation and apportionment requirements across various jurisdictions.
- Monitor state and local tax law changes, assess their impact, and develop proactive strategies to optimize client outcomes.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of tax professionals to deliver outstanding client service.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (or related field).
- CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation required.
- 7+ years of experience in State and Local Tax with a focus on investment partnerships.
- Demonstrated experience responding to notices from state tax authorities.
- Strong working knowledge of tax software applications and Microsoft Office tools.
- Proven ability to manage client relationships and deliver exceptional client service.
- Effective leadership and team management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working for a regional or top-tier public accounting firm.
